My Opinion
I would imagine that, as someone has suggested, the new races will be humanoids...
From news of the Assasin, we have gathered that it may take place in a land that has not yet been mentioned. It is likely that it may simply be a different race of humans, from another place (i.e. not Tyrians). That's what I personally believe
I do think other fantasy races would be very hard to implement, and do not seem to be Guild Wars' style. I prefer seeing new, imaginative races ^_^

I'm not debating whether they will or will not be inserted, I'm debating that they could be added in Ascalon without any damage to the lore. I'm really not interested in playing an elf character myself, I understand ANet's choice of having nothing but humans for the original title seeing how the story evolves around a kingdom trying to survive.

There are plenty of places where elves could be added as well. The map we're currently using has an abundance of areas that haven't been touched. Also, there are no dwarves in Ascalon or in Kryta, there are no Forsaken in Kryta or Ascalon so why do you insist that elves would have to be already introduced into the world? Heck, you wouldn't even have to be very clever with the storyline to make it fit. Heck demons, like the OP first suggested, could even be introduced (depending on your definition of "demon" of course).

wow.. this is an old thread.... those grave diggers....
I already dislike Anet for adding the Dwarf. Calling them short-mountain people might be better.
But I would like to see a twisted version of elfs.. maybe green skin and with bunny like ears?
And heard somewhere from frog about race of Bellas......

They might make Charr a playable race some time in the future. I dont remember ever being given an explanation as to why the Charr were attacking Ascalon, or why they performed the Searing other than that.. I think they attacked ascalon because "They didn't like the humans," or "they wanted to take their land." And I think the only reason given on the Searing was that "they wanted to destroy the wall." They havent even explained 'how' the Charr accomplished that.

If you read the Guild Wars Manuscript you'll see that the charr worship fire. Or that fire is the representation of their god (something along those lines). I think that by burning down Ascalon they were simply worshipping their god. Think of it as humungous offering.
I wouldn't want to rule out the idea of playing as the charr, but I do doubt that ANet would take that approach. The reason that I say that is because the whole *reason* for the game is to have the humans survive. It's a survival game; a minority is pit against all odds. I think playing as the charr would kind of take that away. It would be pretty cool though

Haha, yeah. I'd much rather have this than ANOTHER person making a new thread on something that has been discussed a thousand times in other ones.

****SPOILER****
From finishing the story and doing the Titan quests, we can all assume that the fire gods the Charr worshipped were the Titans, whihc were controlled by the Lich. So maybe now that the Lich is dead the Charr will turn to friendly pals! Yay!

or they can just make it like they were just always there, revamping will have a chance to ruin it all while just making them just there probably wont make ne problems

I don't think the charrs will forgive the humans from attacking them. IIRC, one of the lores tells of an attack with demons from the underworld that wreak havoic upon the charrs for many days....killing tons of charrs..
